COUNSELLING
A Counsellor can help you to deal with any feelings you have which are upsetting you. Counselling will give you the opportunity to talk in private about any problems you may have and decide yourself what you want to do about them.

Counsellors do not normally give advice

REFERRALS
You can refer yourself, we also receive referrals from Social Services, Schools, GP’s and other organisations.
THE INITIAL APPOINTMENT
You will be given an initial appointment where you can tell us what you are hoping to gain from counselling and we can give you some information about us. You will then be given a counsellor. You may have to join the waiting list but we will do our best to make sure you can start as soon as possible.
CONFIDENTIALITY

Our Confidentiality policy states that:

"The Personal details of any client and any information divulged will be kept strictly confidential to the Bradford Couselling Service"

However, if you give your counsellor information that someone else is in danger of serious harm, then your counsellor may wish to take some action to prevent this from happening. The matter would be discussed with you first before any action is taken.

If you are under 18 years of age and you yourself are in danger, then your counsellor may wish to take action to protect you.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES
Off the Record is committed to providing services to all people regardless of colour, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or disability. The location of our office prevents us from seeing clients who cannot manage several flights of stairs, but such clients can be seen at the Information Shop for young people.
THE STAFF
At present the Staff at Off the Record consists of one full-time Co-ordinator, an Administrator, four part-time Counsellors and twenty-five volunteers, most of whom are also Counsellors.

Most of our volunteer counsellors are training for a diploma in counselling. Before they can take clients they must have a recognised certificate in Counselling Skills and they must spend 36hrs as a support worker, taking calls, making appointments and other office duties. This is so they can become aquainted with the way OTR works. Finally they are given a test of their counselling skills

The Staff at OTR believe in and practice equal opportunities. We work within a multi-cultural team and atmosphere. Our volunteers come from a rich mixture of backgrounds and walks of life.

SUPERVISION
All of our counsellors have group supervision each month. Supervisors are fully qualified and experienced. Individual supervision is also available to our counsellors.
